We are excited to share some wonderful news from Mothers’ Milk Bank California (MMB California) as we celebrate a significant milestone. For 50 incredible years, we have proudly served infants and families both across California and nationwide. To mark this special anniversary, we are launching the MMB California Cares Program.
You may also notice a slight change in our name —“California” has been added to honor our roots and the wonderful community we’ve been a part of for half a century. Over these years, we’ve distributed an astonishing 16 million ounces of donor human milk—enough to fill seven swimming pools! This achievement is thanks to our nearly 25,000 generous milk donors who have supported thousands of families during their most critical times.
We have also played a key role in creating a model for milk banks that has been adopted by over 30 milk banks across the U.S. and Mexico. This model, pioneered by MMB California 50 years ago, continues to guide these banks today.
In celebration of our 50th anniversary, we are excited to announce the launch of the MMB California Cares Program and our vision for the next 50 years. This initiative focuses on:
- Quality Assurance and Compliance: Upholding rigorous standards for processing and distributing donor human milk to ensure safety and efficacy.
- Efficiency and Excellence: Streamlining operations to maximize the impact of milk donations across our expanding network.
- Equity and Access Initiatives: Increasing access to donor human milk for all families in California and beyond.
- Education and Outreach Campaigns: Raising awareness about the life-saving benefits of donor human milk and fostering community among donors and recipients.
We have also unveiled a newly redesigned website featuring enhanced navigation and user-friendly interfaces. The site offers robust resources for donors, healthcare providers, and families seeking support.
As we celebrate our past and look forward to the future, we are deeply grateful for our amazing community of donors, healthcare partners, and supporters. Thank you for being with us on this journey. Here’s to the next 50 years!
